hidden pictures
On top of everything else that’s been going on, I’m in a new band project. It’s original material and carefully arranged, so there are a lot of rehearsals just to get a few songs. The band is called Hidden Pictures.
I met Richard and Michelle a few months ago, when they recorded a song with Howard Iceberg here at my studio. They were in a band called OK Jones, whose music I liked a lot. I was impressed by Richard’s writing, and they’re really nice people, so when they asked if I’d be interested in playing drums with them on some gigs I jumped at the chance. It turned out the bass player is Tim Bransted, whom I worked with on a session at UMKC last year, and he’s a great guy and good player as well.
The songs on the MySpace page are from their 9-song EP, mastered here last week. Obviously they were recorded without drums or (mostly) bass, so if you want to hear the full production you’ll have to come see us! We’re at the Replay Lounge in lovely Lawrence, KS, tonight. It’s an early patio show starting at 7:30 if I understand correctly. We go on around 8:30 or 9:00.
There’s talk of more shows together, though nothing is booked at the moment. I really enjoy the band—it’s very different from what I usually play. Mostly brushes, and the fact that everyone else is in their 20s means they’re coming at it from a different perspective than mine.
