a kind of meme

I wanted to hear one of my all-time favorite songs the other day, “Kind Woman” by Buffalo Springfield, so I typed the word “kind” into the search field in iTunes. The result turned out to be an interesting playlist:

Kind Woman / Buffalo Springfield
Kinda Wanna / Lori Denae
All Kinds of Time / Fountains of Wayne
(Kind of) True / The Golden Palominos
Cruel To Be Kind / Nick Lowe
It Takes All Kinds / Aimee Mann
A Strange Kind of Love (Version One) / Peter Murphy
A Kind of Loving / The Police
The Serious Kind / Jonathan Rundman
Some Kinda Fool / Sneakers (Chris Stamey & Mitch Easter)
Hand of Kindness / Richard Thompson
The Kind of Girl / The Zombies

So maybe I’m starting a meme here. Does anybody else have an interesting playlist from a single-word search? I’ll grant that my list may not be interesting to you, but I would still like to see what anyone else might come up with.

The rule: search your iTunes library for one word, then post the list. (For the first time I posted about this, go here) When I input the keyword “seven,” I get seven songs: Seven Days / Azure Ray The Magnificent... [Read More]

Here's what "kind" brings up in my iTunes:

The Difficult Kind/Sheryl Crow
What Kinda Girl?/Rosanne Cash
Southern Kind Of Life/Kasey Chambers
Some Kind Of Wonderful/Joss Stone
The Losing Kind/John Doe
Humankind/Grant-Lee Phillips
The Kind/Steve Earle

I suspect, though, mine's a much smaller database.;-)

I like your choice of music! I just recently got turned on to Kasey Chambers--I've liked the four or so songs I've heard quite a bit.

I'm surprised I don't have the John Doe or Grant-Lee Phillips songs. Obviously they're on albums I don't have. Yet.

Is Joss Stone a woman? That name seems familiar, but I'm not sure I know who it is. Thanks for sending your list, Elle!

I'm a huge Kasey Chambers fan so if you want copies of any of her albums, let me know...

I know you didn't ask me, but Joss Stone is a female, yea. I don't have her album, but I've heard good things about it.

I'm going to post my "kind" list on my blog.

Yep, Andrea beat me to it. Joss Stone is a young (about 19, i think) British woman. Does a lot of bluesy stuff and is frequently compared in the press to Janis Joplin. I don't have her album either; I downloaded the live version of "Some Kind of Wonderful" somewhere, some time ago. Legally, I swear!

"The Losing Kind" is from Forever Hasn't Happened Yet, Doe's most recent album, from spring of 2005. My only complaint about it is that at less than 40 minutes long, it's just too short. :-)

dude!
something must have been in the air, I had that tune under my skin in a major way just previous to your post here, made mention of it at d'monkey on the 19th...

great minds, eh?

Actually, jp, I had visited your blog earlier that day and had the song going through my mind ever since. So my debt is to you :-)
